EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHTS

Patritia Overton

Human Resources Manager

Patricia Overton has been with Roses Discount Stores for over 34 years. It will be 35 years next February. She started working with the company in 1987. Before Roses, Patricia worked as a bookkeeper at a convivence store enterprise. Eventually, her role at that job was eliminated, opening the door for her to work for Roses.

Patricia started working as a sales audit when she arrived at Roses, where she did daily sales and cash register reports. 6 months later, she worked with CRT terminals.

During our interview with Patricia, we asked if she remembered her first day at Variety. She responded by saying she remembers walking in and seeing 25 women in one room. There was just enough room to back up, and she recalls that this instantly concerned her.

Currently, Patricia works as a human resources manager where she does hiring, recruiting, government required reporting, and recognition reports on the store support center. What made Patricia want to  work in human resources, is the fact that she always thought it was interesting. Her favorite part of her job is offering people jobs. She loves making individuals happy with the satisfaction of having a job.

When asked if she has gained anything from working with Roses, Patricia responded by saying she has gained a family, and that the company is very family oriented.

Outside of work, Patricia is very involved in church, where she has been the church clerk for over 30 years. In 5 years, Patricia sees herself at home enjoying her retirement. She stated that retirement will also allow her time to help her husband with farming, and that she will have more time to help in the church.

Danielle Pulley has been with Variety Wholesalers Inc. For 18 years. She started working with the company in 2003. When Danielle came out of high school, she began working full time at the receiving office at the Henderson DC. She then took a break to focus on college where she received her degree from Vance Granville. She also worked as a Hardlines Distributer for food and candy, and back to school, before her current role today. When asked what brought her to the company, Danielle responded by saying the company was local, and she knew some of the people that worked there.

Danielle is currently the manager of the order book replenishment team. She helps stores map out planograms, and she also helps get the planograms approved. When asked what made her want to work in her current role, Danielle said she was given a choice between being an associate planner and her current position today. She had already worked in the planning world previously, so she wanted to see another part of the company.

Danielle’s favorite part of her job is her coworkers. She said it is like a family here. When asked if she had a favorite memory, Danielle responded by saying the Christmas and other holiday gatherings are always special because they emphasize fellowship.

Since starting with the company 18 years ago, Danielle says the company has had a big advance in technology. She remembers when our stores were POS and did not have computers. Today the stores have computers and can be contacted via email.

Outside of work, Danielle likes to spend time with her family, do different types of crafts, and also camp. When asked where she sees herself in the next 5 years, answered that she still sees herself working with the company, but is not sure if it will be within the same position.
